Another major complaint of apartheid at Tesla's plant
A California agency has filed a complaint against Tesla Company for racial discrimination. The agency says that hundreds of employees have complained to them about the discrimination being done against black people in the company. There have been complaints of racial discrimination at the Fremont factory of Elon Musk's company Tesla. Kevin Kish, director of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, DFEH, issued a statement saying that the agency has "received evidence that Tesla's Fremont factory is a racially segregated workplace where black workers are employed." discriminated against in terms of work, position, pay and promotions given to them." The complaint states that black workers at the factory were treated with racist jokes and derogatory words by their managers and fellow workers. Huh. Kish says that hundreds of employees working in the factory have sent complaints to his agency. Tesla issued a statement on Wednesday, just before the agency filed the complaint. It states that the company "resistes all forms of abuse and discrimination" and is committed to providing "a safe, dignified, fair and integrated work place".
However, a completely different picture appears from what has emerged
from the complaint filed by the agency in a California court. The agency says
that the places where black workers are employed are called by white workers
with racist historical names, one of which is "Plantation." Black
slaves were sent to work on farms where sugar and sugar were used before the
mid-19th century. Crops like cotton are grown. Frustrated with the abuse, the
complaint states that white workers at Tesla's factory "make remarks and
then scuffle and scuffle," which is followed by disciplinary action
against black workers. White workers often get convenient treatment at the
plant. These include giving them easier jobs and easing disciplinary action,
especially compared to black workers. The problem of racism in America is
historic and deep. There have been many protests against racial injustice here
in recent years, with millions of people raising the flag against the police
killing of African-Americans.
After the Black Lives Matters campaign gained momentum in 2020, more
cases of racial discrimination have been reported in US offices and factories.
The details that have emerged from the complaint of DFEH are shocking. The
culture of racial discrimination is widespread in Fremont's factory. DFEH has
said that an employee reported that he had to "hear such racial slurs
50-100 times a day" in addition to those wearing racially provocative
tattoos and depicting black workers. From the toilet to many other places,
messages like Nazi Swastika, KKK, Goback to Africa are found written. Here KKK
stands for Ku Klux Klan which is a group of white supremacists. There are other
allegations of racism, the complaint said. Tension due to harsh and
ever-increasing racial abuse, scuffles with abusers, widespread discrimination,
overly harsh discipline and wasteful complaints have all made working
conditions so unbearable that they are resigning" Billionaire This is not
the first case of businessman Elon Musk's complaint against alleged
discrimination at a California factory, and several more cases have been
registered.
